Michael Alan "Mick" Garris is one of the directors of Dead of Summer.

Biography[]

Life and Career[]

Garris is an American director, screenwriter, producer, actor, miscellaneous crew member. He is known for his adaptations of Stephen King stories, such as the horror film Sleepwalkers, and is the creator of the Showtime TV series Masters of Horror, and the NBC series Fear Itself. Garris won a 1986 Edgar Award for an episode he wrote for the Steven Spielberg-produced television series Amazing Stories. Garris directed the FEARnet web series Post Mortem. He hosted the double feature re-release of The People Under the Stairs and The Serpent and The Rainbow at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, California on February 20, 2010.

Garris contributes to the web series Trailers From Hell. He was also the co-screenwriter and executive producer of Hocus Pocus. Garris most recently directed the miniseries adaption of Stephen King's novel Bag of Bones and the documentary film Pure in Heart: The Life and Legacy of Lon Chaney Jr., about the life and work of Legend actor Lon Chaney Jr., which was screened on the Horror-Rama 2015 in October 2015. He had a role as himself in the Biography Horror film Digging Up the Marrow, from Indie Director Adam Green. Garris has also directed episodes on the television series: Pretty Little Liars, Ravenswood, Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, Witches of East End, among others.

Garris received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2006 New York City Horror Film Festival. He received the award in person after a screening of his Masters of Horror episode "Valerie on the Stairs". As of 2015, he is also a member of the board of advisers for the Hollywood Horror Museum.

Garris has been married to actress Cynthia Garris since May 13, 1982. He casts her in all of his films.

In May 2016, Garris confirmed that he'll be directing on Dead of Summer.[1]
