Norman Lee Buckley, professionally known as Norman L. Buckley, is one of the directors of Dead of Summer.
Life and Career
Buckley is an American actor, director and editor raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He is one four children born to Betty Bob (née Diltz) and Ernest Buckley. He studied history at the University of Texas at Arlington before moving to California where he would later graduate from the University of Southern California. In spite of initial disapproval from his father, who wanted him to become a civil engineer like himself and Buckley's two brothers, Buckley attended the film school at the University of Southern California. Buckley's brief acting career began and ended when he was drafted to play a part in Solomon and Sheba because the production didn't want to fly any more English-speaking actors to the filming locations in Morocco. He intended to become a writer, but was encouraged to take up a craft, in addition to writing, and he soon discovered he had a natural aptitude for film editing. Buckley is also openly gay.
Buckley's career began as an assistant editor on the 1983 film Tender Mercies, which featured his sister, actress Betty Buckley, who helped him land the job after hearing that the film's editor was seeking a local assistant while on location in Waxahachie, Texas. The editor was pleased with Buckley's work and took him to New York to begin his career. Buckley has also worked on 90210, Chasing Life, Chuck, Fastlane, Finding Carter, Greek, Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie, Jane the Virgin, Make It or Break It, Melrose Place, Pretty Little Liars, Rizzoli & Isles, Stitchers, Switched at Birth, The Carrie Diaries, The Client List, The Fosters, The Lying Game, The Mysteries of Laura and The O.C. as well as Zoo, among other projects. Buckley's made for television film, The Pregnancy Project won Best Primetime Program (Special or Movie of the Week) and Best Actress (Alexa Vega) at the 2012 Imagen Awards.
In September 2008, Buckley married his spouse Davyd Whaley during a brief window of legal opportunity in the state of California, and remained legally married until Whaley's death on October 15, 2014.
In early 2016, Buckley announced on his Twitter that he will be directing Dead of Summer.
