Biography

Life and Career

Hatem is an American screenwriter and producer raised in Monterrey Park, California. He attended the University of California School of Cinematic Arts, where he received a Bachelor's degree in film production. Hatem taught comedy traffic school and worked as a waiter at a Tony Roma's restaurant in Pasadena, California several years prior to his writing career.

Hatem's career began in 1995, when he co-wrote Under Siege 2: Dark Territory with writer, director, and producer Matt Reeves. In 2002, he wrote and co-produced the film, The Mothman Prophecies. He's the creator and co-executive producer of the television series Miracles which was cancelled after only 13 episodes in 2003. He's also worked on Damien, Grimm, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Supernatural, The Dead Zone, The Gates, The Lost Room, The Secret Circle, Tru Calling, Witches Of East End, the television film, Heavenly and wrote an untitled pilot for ABC in 2010.

Hatem is a member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and is also a television writing class professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He currently resides in Pasadena with his wife and children.

On February 7, 2016, Hatem announced on his Twitter that he was a part of the writing team of Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis's Dead of Summer. Hatem previously worked with the duo on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.
